Best places to live in Silicon Valley: Palo Alto #6

 

The results are in, and once again several Silicon Valley cities have been named by Livability.com as being among the top 100 places to live in the United States. Livability evaluates cities and towns throughout America using a strategic livability index. This is the third year of Livability’s “Best Places to Live” list.

Palo Alto, which has made the list all three years, took sixth place on the list for 2016. About this city, Livability.com writes, “Those fortunate enough to live in Palo Alto enjoy a city that surpasses most quality of life standards.” The article goes on to mention the dark fiber ring around the city that gives residents blinding-fast Internet speed, beautiful parks, lots of open spaces and plenty of fine dining.

Here are the other best places to live in Silicon Valley, along with what Livability.com had to say about them:

#12 San Mateo: “Among the most diverse cities in Silicon Valley, with a 43 percent minority population, San Mateo contains a rich assortment of historic buildings, parks and restaurants.”

#45 Menlo Park: “Menlo Park is home to Facebook’s global headquarters and a highly educated population who strongly supports environmental protection and community improvement projects.”

#77 Mountain View: “The median income for families is more than $120,000, and the city’s primary cultural area is its downtown district along Castro Street. Shoreline Park is a popular gathering spot thanks to an amphitheater and golf course, and El Camino Hospital tends to the medical needs of many residents.”

#83 Redwood City: “Redwood City officials are proud of their revitalized downtown district and 24 public parks . . . Among the community's amenities are a 20-screen movie theater and an annual Independence Day Parade billed as ‘The Largest Independence Day Parade in California.’”

To compile its 2016 rankings, Livability.com surveyed more than 2,000 American cities with between 20,000 and 350,000 people. More than 40 data points were used to determine where cities fell within the 100. You can read the article and the entire “Best Places to Live” list here.

Oh, and the #1 place to live in America, according to Livability.com? Rochester, Minnesota.
