Congratulations to Redwood City on its 150th anniversary! Originally a port town during California’s gold rush era, the Redwood City Sesquicentennial Committee and Sequoia High School are pulling out all the stops to ensure that the celebration honoring Redwood City in its 150th year is enjoyed and appreciated by locals and visitors alike.

Being the oldest city in San Mateo County, Redwood City has a rich history to tell. The website RedwoodCityHistory.org was created to document the city’s historical abundance. There you will find wonderful photos and videos of Redwood City’s past, a walking tour and map that juxtaposes past and present images of places and people important to the development of Redwood City, and a listing of events designed to put you into Redwood City’s present and future.

“Redwood City - Past, Present, Future Student Poster Art,” designed and produced by students at Sequoia High School, will be displayed throughout the city at all events sponsored by the Sesquicentennial Committee.

Redwood City became the County Seat in San Mateo County in 1856, and incorporated in 1867.  Founded on the Redwood Creek that was used to float redwood logs to San Francisco during the Gold Rush, Redwood City is now a thriving, diverse community in the center of Silicon Valley.  Commerce, government, technology, manufacturing all contribute to its bustling economy and neighborhoods.  30 parks, playgrounds and plazas, the Downtown Historical Commercial District, the County Museum housed in the historical courthouse, Victorian structure, and a vital arts and music scene drive over 100,000 visitors to Redwood City annually.

Join the anniversary celebration commencing this January with the following events:

January 9, 2017
6:30pm - 8:30pm

May 20, 2017

Stay in the loop about additional events that will be added in celebration of Redwood City’s 150th Anniversary at RedwoodCityHistory.org. Who knows? If you aren’t already, you too may become enamored with today’s Redwood City just as the famous Wyatt Earp was in his.
