Under $1 million in Mountain View

dataHomes for sale in Mountain View typically carry more “moderate” price tags than homes on the market in many other Silicon Valley cities.  As an example, if you’re looking for homes in the valley priced at $1 million or less, you don’t need to spend time looking in Atherton or Los Altos Hills, because you’ll be hard-pressed to find any.  But in Mountain View there are eight properties – including single-family homes and townhomes – selling for under $1 million. Currently there are 21 properties on the market in Mountain View – a relatively small number, but small numbers of homes for sale in all Silicon Valley communities is common today.  The 2010 U.S. Census reported 31,957 total households in Mountain View; while each of those “households” doesn’t necessarily represent a physical home, it does help to paint a picture of the gap between how many homes could be for sale and how many actually are.

Moderate pricing on Mountain View homes means there are more opportunities for singles, couples just starting out and first-time homebuyers to find a life here.  These types of individuals often are attracted to homes listed at under $1 million, especially when you consider that homes throughout Silicon Valley typically are selling for 6% to 10% over the listing price.

Square footage on the eight under $1 million ranges from 871 to 1,694.  At the bottom end of the price scale is a two-bedroom, two-bath townhome with two master suites and central air for $829,000.  At the other end of the scale is a three-bedroom, three-bath townhome on two levels with vaulted ceilings and a balcony for $998,000.

Of the eight available properties priced less than $1 million, six are townhomes, one is an attached single-family home and one is a detached single-family home.
